Financial markets will observe a temporary halt on Monday, January 19, 2026, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This marks the first market closure since New Year's Day, with regular trading resuming the following Tuesday. The holiday, celebrated on the third Monday of January, pays tribute to the civil rights leader despite his actual birthday falling on January 15.

The 2026 trading holiday schedule includes several additional closures: Presidents' Day on February 16, Good Friday on April 3 (with bond markets closing at noon), and Memorial Day on May 25 (with bond markets closing early on May 22). Further interruptions are anticipated later in the year, beginning with Juneteenth.
